Problem 1

Problem 1: We faced problems with the lighting in the Heritage Centre, whereby the lighting was either too bright, which may cause artefact damage, or too dim, which would result in there being difficulty in the reading the inscriptions or viewing the displays.

Solution 1: We propose to the school to install UV filters on the light bulbs in the Heritage Centre. Filters come in the form of hard plastic tubes or soft plastic sleeves. Another option is to use light bulbs that already come with UV filters. One light bulb that we would recommend to the school would be the OSRAM Halogen Pro Classic R50. It is a direct replacement of the conventional incandescent light bulb. It comes with a UV filter already installed, and its average lifespan is around 2000h, almost twice the amount of an incandescent light bulb! Furthermore, the OSRAM Halogen Pro Classic R50 does not contain any mercury, which is harmful to human health and the environment, so it is very safe to handle.
